As of July 1, 2026, Claude Fable 5 is available worldwide again. Anthropic launched it on June 9, US export controls restricted access for foreign nationals from June 12 to June 30, and the model went back to full global availability the day after the controls lifted. Pricing is $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens. This is the practical companion to that news — what those two numbers buy a one-person business.
The short answer: model economics stopped being the constraint. A finished 1,200-word article costs about 55 cents in tokens. A serious content month costs less than lunch. The real constraints are now your review time and your judgment about which work deserves a frontier model.
Below is the math we actually run at Avakata, the three places a Mythos-class model changes a one-person stack, and the two caveats that keep the whole thing honest.
What do $10 input and $50 output actually mean?
Fable 5 charges $10 per million tokens you send in and $50 per million tokens it writes back. A token is about three-quarters of an English word, so 1,000 words is roughly 1,330 tokens. Feeding the model a 5,000-word brand brief costs about seven cents. Getting a 1,200-word draft back costs about eight cents. And the whole package is priced at less than half of Claude Mythos Preview.
The asymmetry is the design hint. Reading is a fifth the price of writing. So give the model everything — brand brief, past posts, analytics exports, competitor pages — and ask for tight output. Context is cheap. Padding is what costs.
Most people prompt the opposite way. They starve the model of context to keep requests small, get a generic draft, then pay for three revision passes that proper context would have prevented.
Context in, precision out. The pricing rewards exactly the workflow that produces better work anyway.
Run the math on a real content month
A realistic solopreneur content month on Fable 5 runs $12 to $15 in tokens. Twelve blog posts at about 55 cents each is $6.60. Four five-email campaigns at about a dollar each is $4. Fifty social posts drafted in weekly batches add roughly another dollar. The same output bought from freelancers at typical 2026 rates runs $2,400 to $6,000.
Research is the heavier line item. A deep run that reads 40 pages of sources is input-dominated — about 200,000 tokens in, 8,000 out, or $2.40 per run. One a week is about $10 a month and replaces two hours of tab-skimming each time.
Agentic site work is the priciest lane and still cheap. A supervised session where Fable 5 reads the repo, plans, and ships a change burns 400,000 to 600,000 input tokens and 20,000 to 40,000 output — $5 to $8 a session. We run two a week.
Add it all up, run hard, and the stack lands near $75 a month. Hold that number against every hesitation you had about frontier pricing.
Where a Mythos-class model changes a one-person stack
Three places, in order of impact: agentic site work, research, and campaign drafting. The common thread is scope. Fable 5 is the first generally available model whose capabilities exceed anything Anthropic has shipped before, and the practical effect is that it carries project-sized work — many files, many sources, many drafts — without dropping the thread. That is what separates a chat assistant from a colleague-shaped tool.
Agentic site work is the clearest shift. Stripe reported that Fable 5 compressed months of engineering into days, including a codebase-wide migration done in a day that would have taken a team more than two months. Scaled down to a solopreneur site, that is a template refactor or a schema rollout in an afternoon instead of a lost week.
Research moves from summarizing to synthesizing. The model is state-of-the-art on knowledge-work and scientific-research benchmarks, and it shows in output: our weekly competitive brief went from stitched summaries to an argument with numbers we act on.
Campaign drafting improves where it counts — revision passes. Across 31 assets in June, our average dropped from three human passes to 1.5 on Fable 5. That is close to a marketer-hour saved per asset, worth far more than the tokens.
None of the three demands new technical skill. They demand clear briefs and honest editorial review, which was always the job.
When are the cheaper models still the right call?
Keep small models for high-volume, low-judgment output. At $50 per million output tokens, bulk generation is where Fable 5 costs real money. Five hundred product descriptions at 300 tokens each is 150,000 output tokens — $7.50 on Fable 5, pennies on a small model, and the small model's versions are fine. The dividing line is judgment per token, not task category.
Our routing rule fits in two sentences. Anything a careful junior could do with a checklist goes to a cheap model. Anything I would otherwise have to do myself goes to Fable 5.
In practice: tagging, meta descriptions, alt text, transcript cleanup, and first-pass summaries stay cheap. Strategy, brand-voice drafts, research synthesis, agentic work, and anything customer-visible goes frontier.
The $75 total is not a license to route everything up. Cost discipline compounds in both directions.
The two caveats that keep this honest
First, Fable 5 does not answer every query itself. Anthropic routes queries on certain topics to Claude Opus 4.8 instead, so on a narrow set of subjects you are quietly getting an older model. Second, availability is policy-dependent. US export controls restricted access for foreign nationals from June 12 to June 30, 2026, with almost no warning on either end. Plan for both.
The routing caveat is minor for marketing work. In a month of production use we hit it twice, both times on security-adjacent research prompts. If your niche sits near gated territory, run a one-day pilot before moving anything that matters.
The availability caveat is the bigger one. Do not rebuild everything overnight on any single model, this one included. Keep prompts, briefs, and evaluation checklists in plain portable files so switching providers is an afternoon, not a rebuild.
Migrate one workflow a week and measure for two weeks before you call it. That pace moves a whole stack in about six weeks with zero bet-the-business moments.
A first week that pays for the month
Day one: load your brand brief and your three best posts, then redraft next week's article — about 60 cents, and within an hour you will know whether revision count drops. Day three: run one deep research brief on a live client question, about $2.40. Day five: give it one supervised agent task on a low-stakes site chore, under $8. Total pilot spend: under $12.
Judge the week on minutes saved and revision passes, not on how impressive the output feels. If it does not return at least three hours, stay where you are and re-test in a quarter.
Ours returned nine hours in week one, most of it from the agent session and the research run. Your number will differ. The point is to have a number.
